Hacker and programmer David Wang has at last done it.  He has breached the closed source code on Apple’s iPhone.  Wang has successfully booted the iPhone with Google’s Android. This really is quite a feat: booting Google’s Android OS on Apple’s iPhone Wang, full fledged member of the unit identified as “The iPhone Development Team,” which is devoted to hacking iPhones.  Just last week he posted a video showing the Google Android on an iPhone. The video displays the booting procedure complete with the Tux Linux mascot.  Plus it reveals Wang using the Google Droid for browsing, getting a text message, answering a phone call and playing a song. Wang has the iPhone set up with a dual-boot configuration.  You can witness this as Wang starts the video with the iPhone running on its OS. Wang readily admits that his hack is not production-quality at this time.  He claims that the hack is still in its Alpha phase but he claims that the whole thing operates perfectly regarding functionality. Wang’s Droid hack on the iPhone is quite a technical achievement.  Some state it won’t transform the industry or the behavior of mainstream consumers.  The one note able thing Wang’s hack does make obvious is that the iPhone may be compromised even with its grip on the source code. Wang comments that he has been working on his hack since 2008.  The video he uses to demonstrate his victorious hack is done with a first-generation iPhone.  But, new iPhones are also likely to be compromised by this patch. Wang asserts that it should be simple to port forward to the iPhone 3G.  He readily admits that the 3GS will take more work but.  Wang’s wish is to make the Google Droid a viable alternative or supplement for the iPhone and perhaps we can ultimately add Flash.
